Feed your FAITH and your FEARS will starve to death.
FEAR also known as False Evidence Appearing Real, is something that keeps many people from living their absolute dreams. And while fear is largely frowned upon, it has scientific Merit. Fear is a chain reaction in the brain that starts with a stressful stimulus and ends with the release of chemicals that cause a racing heart, fast breathing and energized muscles, among other things, also known as the fight-or-flight response. If not recognized and taken seriously, it can interfere with almost any goal that you set for yourself.
Here are some fears you may be facing that keep you from living your best life.
Imposter syndrome, also known as the belief that you are not as good as what you are trying to be keeps many people from living their dreams. For instance, when I first became a therapist, I was very hard on every single imperfection that I had. I didn’t think that I could be effective as a therapist, because I knew all of my weaknesses and I was afraid that my clients and colleagues would discover them as well. It wasn’t until a supervisor provided me with a technique that I realized that the imposter syndrome was very common and was something that could be overcome. I’ll share that technique with you today.
The technique is referred to as, “act as if.” It means that you don’t have to necessarily be what you want to be, only act as if you are. In my case, I didn’t necessarily have to be a good therapist to be a good therapist. I merely needed to act as if I was a good therapist to become better. I found that the more that I tried to “act as if” whatever it was that I wanted out of life, the closer I became to whatever it was. Therefore, I encourage you to think about the areas in your life where you are struggling to be something that you just don’t feel like you’re good enough to be. Then, “act as if” you are that good to see your dreams come to fruition.
Fear of failure. Many people just don’t try things because they are afraid that they will not be successful. What they fail to realize in those moments, is oftentimes it’s on the other side of their fear that they will find the success that they’re looking for. By giving up too early, you don’t ride the wave long enough to face your fears.
But the fear of success is often as overwhelming as the fear of failure. There’s a saying that goes, ” with new levels comes new devils.” Success brings so many areas for people to be judgmental and critical of you and some people fear that as well. This is particularly challenging if you are surrounded by people who do not promote you but rather want to take from you.
Fear of the unknown. The fact of the matter is, everyone who achieves anything in life will have to be willing to do something that you haven’t done before. This will require you to go into spaces that you haven’t been. Meet people that you haven’t met so that you can do things that you haven’t done. But, nothing changes if everything stays the same. If you truly want to live the best life that you can, you have to be willing to face these difficulties. Your best life is on the other side of whatever you’re afraid of at this time. And if you want to get it, you going to have to be willing to face what you don’t know.
It is very hard to face your fear because fear is often so powerful that it remains the only thing we can see. But nothing good has ever come from staying complacent. You have to be willing to jump out into uncharted territory to achieve the life that you deserve. Only then, will you truly live your best life.
Facing fears are very challenging. If you would like help with overcoming these challenges, our therapist are available tp support you today.
